Puzzle's MCP (Model Context Protocol) integration lets you connect your Puzzle account directly to Claude, ChatGPT, Cursor, Codex and other AI assistants that support MCP, giving you instant access to your financial data through natural conversation — no exports, no copy-pasting.
New connections are read-only. Write access is available as a Beta, and you can allow it per connection (see Step 6). Usage is rate limited, and the connection stays signed in as long as it's used at least once every 30 days.
Before you begin
Make sure you have the following:
An AI assistant that supports MCP connectors, such as Claude.ai (any plan), ChatGPT, Cursor or Codex
A Puzzle account
Full access or Partial access to each company you want to connect. Puzzle only lists those companies when you connect.
AI turned on for each company. To turn it on, open Chat in Puzzle, send a message, then click Allow in the Enable a Smarter Puzzle dialog. Settings → Chat only shows whether AI is on. If AI is off for a company, your assistant still sees it, but Puzzle's tools won't read or change its books until AI is turned on.
What you'll be able to access
Once connected, your assistant can read your Puzzle books, including:
Balance sheet
Income statement
Trial balance
Cash activity
Transactions
Journal entries
Chart of accounts
Invoices
Bills
Vendors
Customers
Payroll
Revenue metrics
Expense metrics
Spending metrics
Employee metrics
Product library
Classes & departments
Monthly checklist
Categorization metrics
Ledger accounts
+ more
With write access turned on (Beta), your assistant can also make changes, such as categorizing transactions, creating bills, invoices and journal entries, and reconciling accounts. It confirms each change with you before making it.
Companies on Puzzle's free plan get every tool for a grace period after they first connect (or until their free trial ends, if that's later), then a limited read-only set.
Setup steps
These steps use Claude. In ChatGPT, Cursor, Codex or another assistant that supports MCP, add Puzzle as a custom connector or MCP server with the same URL (https://app.puzzle.io/mcp) and sign in with your Puzzle account the same way.
Step 1: Open the Connectors page in Claude
Go to claude.ai/customize/connectors, or navigate there via Claude.ai → Customize → Connectors.
Step 2: Add a custom connector
Click the + button, then select Add custom connector.
Step 3: Enter the Puzzle MCP details
Fill in the connector fields exactly as shown:
Name: Puzzle MCP
Step 4: Authenticate with your Puzzle account
You'll be prompted to sign in to Puzzle via OAuth and choose which companies the connection covers. The Read-only switch is on by default, so nothing in your books can be changed until you allow write access. Click Allow to finish.
Step 5: Start asking questions
Once connected, open a new conversation and start exploring your financials. Try asking things like "What does my income statement look like this quarter?" or "Show me my top vendors by spend."
Step 6 (optional, Beta): Allow write access
Write access is in Beta and is off until you turn it on for a connection. You can turn it on in three ways: turn off Read-only on the consent page when you connect, ask your assistant to change something, or use Settings → Connected apps in Puzzle. Each way asks you to accept a disclaimer first. Settings → Connected apps is also where you can turn write access off and change which companies the connection covers.
